The University of Tampa Journal of Art History is an online showcase for exemplary undergraduate research in art history. Papers on all topics are considered; no plans for theme issues exist at the present time. All winning student submissions will receive the Al and Lynn Page Student Prize in Art History, which carries a $500.00 award.
Each issue will feature a paper by a distinguished scholar and teacher of art history and a paper by a student from his or her home institution; two papers by students from any nationally-accredited institution; and one paper by a University of Tampa student. Please note that the faculty/student pair is by invitation only, however nominations are welcome. A scholar who has an established reputation in his or her area of art history, and a proven commitment to undergraduate research and mentoring, will be selected by the editors for each issue. This scholar will contribute an original essay, and will work closely with a student of his or her choice to prepare a seminar or senior thesis paper for publication.
Please submit work based on the following guidelines:
1. Scholar/student essay pair: by invitation only. You will be contacted directly. Once an invitation has been extended, please follow the format outlined below.
2. University of Tampa students (one essay per issue) and students from other institutions (two additional essays) must submit papers with the nomination of a faculty advisor. The faculty advisor must work with the student to ensure that the essay is publication ready. Due to time constraints, only minimal editing will take place once winners are selected. Faculty advisors should email the paper as a Word attachment, along with a brief statement of nomination, directly to Dr. Catherine Chastain-Elliott, Associate Professor of Art History, The University of Tampa, at cchastain.elliott@ut.edu.
3. Papers should be approximately ten to twenty pages in length, in Word format, 12-point Times-New Roman typeface, with endnotes, and digital images appropriately embedded in the body of the paper. Provide the student’s preferred email address, telephone number, school mailing address, and permanent or home mailing address.
4. Request permission to reproduce images, when needed, before submitting the paper, and indicate any required acknowledgements.
5. Submissions are accepted once per year for upcoming issues of the Journal. Faculty advisors should email student essays on or before January 31. All submissions, and competition winners, will be acknowledged via email.
**Please note: While edited, final responsibility for the articles, including legality of the images used, remain with the authors. Whenever possible, submissions will include legally public available electronic links to relevant article images. Articles in the Journal may be reproduced without permission as long as credit is given to the University of Tampa Journal of Art History.
